Stylish Gopher

(Sweater- J Crew Factory, Shirt, Booties- Anthropologie, Black Jeans- Level 99)

I recently went to visit schools in Toronto, which is great fun, but I have yet to return from a trip like that without being laid up for at least 10 days with a nasty virus. I've spent the last 18 days and counting, voiceless and coughing my lungs up. I'm not trying to make excuses for my lack of posts but how many of you would feel like drawing when suffering consumptive like symptoms?

In any case, today I've chosen a gopher (or Richardson Ground Squirrel if you want to be specific, wink, wink those of you on the prairies) to wear my outfit. I croaked my way through the Vancouver International Writer's Festival this past week, which gave me an excuse to get out of my PJ's.

Hopefully more excuses to wear real clothes will come soon...

Catwoman as a Fox

(T-Shirt- Old Navy, Jeans- AG, Blazer- Aritzia,
Purse/ Scarf- Anthropologie, Shoes- Rebecca Minkoff)

I recently got a Catwoman t-shirt. How it took this long to get one of my favourite characters and an apt name for a crazy cat lady like me on a shirt is beyond me. As you can see I'm still working with the fox idea. Does anyone have any suggestions for another animal character?

The Digital Era

(On her- Top, purse, necklace, belt- Anthropologie, Skirt-J Crew, Oxfords- Joseph Campbell)

Here's another version of my possible characters. It's about a little girl and her best friend Andrew. They love to play dress up together until her obsession gets out of hand. Gee, wonder who that's about...

On another note, you may have noticed that I've entered the digital era. It's still a work in progress as I figure out how to wield the digital paint brush in a manner similar to the actual one that I have been using for years, but I'll keep practising. In the meantime, I'll keep subjecting you to my trials.

Again, if you have a preference of characters let me know...

Mystery Critter

(Peplum Top- Madewell, Scarf and Flats- Anthropologie, Jeans- AG)

Okay, not my best work but I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. We had a lovely last Summer hurrah here last week and I was able to pull out some sleeveless tops for one last spin. The sun was a treat but I have to admit that the prospect of artful layering for cooler climes is extremely exciting. Hopefully more exciting outfits- and recognizable animals- to come.

I'm back!

(Whole outfit from Anthropologie- I know, big surprise.)

I'm alive! Okay, so there was probably never much doubt about that, but hey, look, I'm blogging again.

Talk about a sabbatical. Things got pretty hairy there for a while, moving across two provinces (I'm back home in BC!!!) while juggling deadlines, house guests, work travel, three thousand pets, and single handedly ending poverty will do that. Okay, that last bit I haven't totally figured out, but I'm, like, halfway there.

But maybe one or two of my loyal followers are out there still? If you are- Hiya! Welcome back!

So I'm going to start work on a book about a little animal character who loves to dress up. No, it's not an autobiography, at least not completely. I just haven't figured out what kind of animal she and her friend will be so I'm going to use this blog to help me try somethings out. If you think one is working well please send me a note to let me know.

Yipee- I'm back!!

Some things...

I know I'm not posting as regularly as I ought to, but here's one of the reasons why. I'm working on a new monthly series for ChickaDEE magazine. It's sci-fi, which is appropriate since I'm a big geek, and full of aliens and crazy things. I think it's fun, so if you have, or are, a kid aged 6-9, then check it out.

I'll update some more of my goings on soon. Til then...

Flock and Gather Spring 2013

I'm going to be in this!!!

Every year here in Saskatoon, we locals are lucky enough to have the chance to attend this incredible handmade market put on by the Flock and Gather Craft Collective.. The level of the work is always outstanding and I never leave without my bags full and my head bursting with inspiration. This year, I decided to apply for their Spring Market (they also have a Winter one) and, lucky me, I got in! So I'll be there selling my handmade finger puppets and some original art from my books. The trick will be to not just come home with more than I'm taking to sell...

Check out their blog and learn more about the amazing five founding members of Flock and Gather.

The Truth

(Sweater/ T-shirt- Gap, Pants- J Crew, Slippers- Old Navy)

So remember when I vanished for four months or so under a pile of book and magazine work? Here's what I really looked like during that time. Sexy, huh?

The wardrobe took a hit when work came a calling and when the never ending snow began a falling. This winter has been smothering. Clothing has to remain strictly functional or, better yet, stay in cozies and never leave your house. Clearly, I chose the latter.

Back with Bunny

(Sweater- Anthro, Shirt- Gap, Jeans- Pilcro, Boots- Arnold Churgin)

This isn't a mirage- it really is a NEW post! I finally had a chance to use my new toy- a lovely Cintiq computer- to make a quick sketch of a bunny wearing an outfit of mine. (Trust me, it looks better on her.)

I'm going to try to post more frequently, even if it's just updates on my work. Pinky swear.

And I'll post some news about what I've been up to during my radio silence soon. Or, better yet, if you are a reader of ChickaDEE magazine here in Canada, check out my new fiction series, The Space Chronicles debuting this month!

Okay, I'll stop shamelessly plugging my work. For now...
